Mickey Garcia's Biography
Mickey began his music career as a DJ in the early 1970's and worked in several Discotheques in the New York metro area. In the 1980's while in college, Mickey was working as a DJ for a New York radio station WRKS 98.7 KISS FM as a Master Mixer, thinking that he could make music just as good as the songs he was playing on the radio. Soon after he had created the song I WON'T STOP LOVING YOU, and secured a recording contract with Next Plateau Records, the song was placed with the popular group C-BANK which became an international hit. Soon after, Mickey discovered JUDY TORRES with long time friend George Vascones. Mickey and Co-Producer Elvin Molina recorded the song NO REASON TO CRY which was signed to Profile Records. Mickey went on to write and produce Judy's first two albums. While C-BANK and JUDY TORRES were both climbing the BILLBOARD charts, Mickey formed his own record label MICMAC RECORDS. Mickey was able to discover and develop new talent for his label. Mickey discovered and signed CYNTHIA, JOHNNY O. TIANA, TWO WITHOUT HATS, SOAVE, & MORE, NYASIA, THE RIOS SISTERS and many others to his label Micmac Records. Mickey wrote and produced many of the catalogs titles. To this day he still is a DJ and he continues to spin music in various nightclubs and special concert events that takes place in some of the biggest concert arenas in all of America. Since 1987, Mickey has been a Song Writer registered with the American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and has written over 300 works for movies, television and commercial releases all registered to his ASCAP catalog. MUSIC CAREER

In 1976, Mickey's childhood friend George Torres was listening to a cassette mix that Mickey had made for him. George asked Mickey if he could give the cassette to his dance instructor who is also well connected with several Discotheques. Mickey said yes. George Vascones of the Latin Symbolics dance company heard Mickey's cassette mix and contacted Mickey to auditioned him to DJ for a talent show in the Bronx, New York. After Vascones heard Garcia mix live at Garcia’s home, Garcia gave Vascones cassette copies of a new mix to play for Disco owners. Vascones offered Garcia the job to DJ for a talent show at the Stardust Ball Room in the Bronx, New York. On February 1977 After the talent show at the Stardust Ball Room, Vascones told Garcia about a Disco in Manhattan, New York that needed a permanent DJ because the resident DJ by the name of Jellybean Benitez was leaving to work at another Disco in downtown Manhattan, New York. The Garcia DJ brothers Mickey and Tony auditioned for the owner of La Mariposa and got the job. The first Discotheque Mickey and Tony worked at was La Mariposa in Washington Heights, Manhattan, New York.
On The day of the New York City blackout of 1977, Mickey and Tony was DJing at the newly built Discotheque downtown Manhattan called The Valcano Disco on 27th Street between 6th and 7th Avenue. While having no way to get home in the darkness, They spent the night at a friends apartment in Lower Manhattan.

In 1977, The DJ Garcia brothers also guest DJed at the Adams Apple Discotheque on 61st and 1st Ave in Manhattan.
In 1978 Mickey and Tony became the DJs at the Glenwood Rest on Nostrand Avenue and Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn, NY.
In 1981, Mickey and Tony became DJs at El Ranchon on Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn, NY.
In 1982 Mickey became a solo DJ and began working at The Clam Bar Lounge on Flatbush Avenue. Brooklyn, New York.
In 1983 a close friend of Mickey by the name Tony Humphries, a Mixmaster DJ for 98.7Kiss fm invites Mickey to mix for the New York Popular Radio Station as a MasterMixer DJ. Mickey prepares a one hour mix show on a reel to reel tape for Humphries. Humphries, likes the mix Garcia prepared and has the Mixshow aired on July 1983 on 98.7 Kiss fm. Garcia went on to do several mix shows for the New York City popular radio station.
In 1985 Garcia attended Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn, New York and he began working at the college radio station WKRB B91 “The Rhythm Of The City” as a Disc Jockey on-air personality working a 2pm to 6pm shift a few days a week. Along with reading commercials on the air and reading the news and weather, Garcia would play the format music on the program logs and he would remix and multi edit various songs that were on rotation. Garcia would invite recording artists with new songs released from the New York area to be interviewed on the air giving the artists a platform to talk about their new music.
In 1986 Garcia began working with Elvin Molina who was known for creating music demos from his bedroom in a Bronx, New York apartment. Garcia and Molina would go on to create the hit freestyle song I won’t Stop Loving You with a local Bronx, New York lyricist named Marilyn Rodriguez and Marilyn connected Garcia and Molina with the singer Diana Garcia who performed under the name Diamond Eyes. The song was recorded and mixed in Molina’s apartment music studio and Diana recorded her vocals from the bathroom of Molina’s apartment. The demo became a huge hit at Club La Mariage and with DJs in the Bronx, New York and Record Pool Director and friend of Garcia, VIP Record Pool Director Al Pizarro made it a hit at the club La Mirage where he was the DJ on weekends. Pizarro had many friends at the record labels and took a cassette of I Won’t Stop Loving You to play it for a few record executives at the record labels. Pizarro calls Garcia with the news that Eddie O’Loughlin, President of Next Plateau Records is interested in signing Garcia and Molina as the next producers for popular group C-Bank and he wants I Won’t Stop Loving You to be the next C-Bank song. The track was signed to Next Plateau Records. I Won’t Stop Loving You performed by C-Bank featuring Diamond Eyes became the next C-Bank release. The song peeked at # 45 on the Billboard Hot Dance Charts.
Also in 1986 George Vascones of the Latin Symbolics Dance Company introduces Garcia to Judy Torres. Torres auditioned for Garcia at Vascones living room apartment in the Bronx, New York. Garcia was blown away by Torres powerful voice and Garcia offered a production contract to record Torres with his producing partner Elvin Molina. Torres signed the production contract and Garcia and Molina began working on several music tracks to present to Torres. Garcia reached out to lyricist Marilyn Rodriguez to write lyrics to various instrumentals on a cassette tape and the song No Reason To Cry was created. Garcia, Molina and Torres recorded and mixed the hit freestyle song No Reason To Cry in Molina’s bedroom apartment in the Bronx, New York. The song No Reason To Cry peeked at # 30 on the Billboard Hot Dance Charts.
In 1987 Garcia attended the New Music Seminar at the Marriot Marqis Hotel in Times Square Manhattan, New York. Garcia met with Prelude Records owner Marvin Schlachter who had discovered and signed to Prelude France Joli, D-Train Sharon Redd, Jocelyn Brown and many other Disco artists. Garcia and Schlachter had known each other for some time since Garcia was a DJ for 98.7 Kiss fm and played many songs from Prelude Records. Garcia tells Schlachter of the success he is having with C-Bank featuring Diamond Eyes and Judy Torres both currently climbing the Billboard Charts. Schlachter asked Garcia if he would be interested in producing songs for MarTru Records, a new record label Schlachter is starting. Garcia tell Schlachter he wants to start his own record company but doesn’t know how to run a record label and didn’t have the capitol to invest into a label. Garcia said, I know how to make the hits and all I need is a partner who can run the business. Someone to be the business end of the business while Garcia handles the creative end of the business. Schlachter liked the idea and said he has the capitol and he knows how to run a record label and he would love to go into business with Garcia as partners. Garcia and Schlachter got an attorney to draw up the shareholders agreement and they formed the record label MicMac Records, Inc.
